The Power of Vacation Time. Push the Reset/Recharge Button!

IMG_0763Setting the reset/recharge button with time in nature in beautiful Corsica.  Rugged terrain to adventure within, ancient cultures to appreciate, and majestic waters to revitalize body, mind and spirit. With this photo essay of my travels, I hope to inspire a sense of wonder and possibility.

Isn’t it easy to get hooked on the rush of being in high gear, running on adrenaline amidst the stresses (positive and negative!) of each day? Sometimes we don’t realize how hard our bodies and minds are working to keep us at the helm of our life’s responsibilities and endeavors, until we take some active recovery time.  Vacation. Playtime. Real rest and recovery.  Can you feel the lightness of well being and joy that arise just reading those words??? Is it time to schedule a vacation on the already packed calendar? I hope this may inspire you to make it happen!

 

 

Adventures in majestic Corsica, on top of “Le Trou de La Bombe”, a breathtaking precipice above the world, looking upon Les Aiguilles de Bavella. This was a fun steep bouldering surprise after a winding forested hike in Bavella, and a beautiful hike to the Cascades de Pisciu in Hiking in the l’Ospedale region.  It is inspiring to be practicing the local keys to longevity, as described in the Primal Blueprint laws, spending time in nature (often on uneven, steep terrain!), playing, enjoying time in the sun, eating nutrient dense foods from local farms, getting 7-8.5 hours of high quality sleep each night, and being focused on the present.  The stunning landscape makes this a joy!

This is where today’s morning hike led me!  A backbend to refresh on the Bruzzi Trail and Isles in the south of Corsica.  Rugged terrain graced by azure blue waters, the air rich in scents of pine, oak, and salt.  Exploring the beauty of nature is endlessly inspiring and revitalizing.

Bonjour Bonifacio. What glory lies within these chiseled cliffs, and this ancient city living on the edge!  How incredible would it be to climb these walls? An adventure wonderland.  Climbing the Escaliers d’Aragon on the cliffs of Bonifacio was an exhilarating start to the day.  Embrace Curiosity.  Keep climbing and discovering.

 

Les Isles de Levezzi.  These barren landscapes laced with intriguing rock formations appeared to me as a magnificent stage.  Moving upon them here with pilates side bend twist, leg pull front and spine stretch forward.

Playing in the Sardinian sun. This landscape is majestic. What I love about solo travel is the opportunity to meet like minded people who love to explore, to be curious, to ask questions, to share in discoveries and appreciation for beauty.  To be free and spontaneous. To be highly perceptive, senses alive.  To connect with people of many different cultures. To be faced with puzzles of life and to figure them out on the fly! In my quest to learn about the keys to longevity that these people have, in this noted Blue Zone, I am observing their lives follow the Primal Blueprint Laws such as moving frequently, spending time in nature, playing, eating nutrient dense unprocessed foods, getting great rest, plenty of sunshine, and enjoying a slower pace of life with connection to loved ones. Primal laws in action. I love exploring the world!  Keep moving, learning, expanding. It’s invigorating.

 

Playing in the sands of Plage de Santa Giulia and Le Petit Sperone, Corsica. Did you know that the power of the senses is regenerated through time in peaceful natural settings? As loud overbearing stimuli are removed, our nervous system strengthens its ability to sense subtle cues such as waves lapping into shore, the scent of sage and lavender bushes, the sparkling sun on the sea in the horizon.  Our senses have been essential to our survival and evolution as a species, and we are programmed to feel great when they are enhanced.  Sunshine is the best stimulus of Vitamin D creation in the body.  And this is critical to so many physiological processes, including immunity from illness and disease, increased bone density and hormone balance, and sense of well being and joy.  There are so many health benefits to some rejuvenation time at the beach!

IMG_0959An exciting climb to the top of a peak on the cliffs of Bonifacio gave me a wondrous perspective at sunrise, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.  “The most difficult thing is the decision to act. The rest is merely tenacity” – Amelia Earhart.  Live your dreams.  Envision. Take action. Discover.

On the subject of regenerating and recharging, I highly recommend a recent podcast by Dr. Mark Hyman on the subject of regenerative agriculture. This is a critical time on our planet to be making the shift from industrial agriculture which is leading to complete depletion of resources and harmful climate change, to regenerative practices which return carbon to the soil, restore resources, and produce nutrient rich food and soil.
